Fabric carries an overwhelming amount of sentimentality and nostalgia. Materially, it is delicate— it remembers, yet is forgiving. My practice entails of: sketching ideas, drafting patterns, cutting fabric, as well as using hand and machine sewing techniques to craft sculptures that are inspired from the natural world. I am interested in the way that the natural world mirrors our human existence, however I have abstracted the forms I am referencing, such as cocoons, by taking the parts that stand out to me and exaggerating them to create amorphous large forms. Sewing soft sculptures has been a very healing part of my practice. Through this act of making, I am choosing to relive past experiences in hopes of growing from it. This work invites you to reflect on the past and to acknowledge loss as a part of growing up.
