This body of work is about the ugliness that exists within humanity- everything ranging from war, trauma, illness, disability, and even death. These wall-mounted pieces range from small starfish-like creatures to large, life-sized forms that resemble alien species. I used insulating foam to create organic forms that reflect the unattractive qualities in humanity through the making of imperfect, bumpy, and grotesque skin-like textures. This work is about acknowledging and confronting pain, illness, and/or grief-instead of trying to dissociate or escape from it. It is about facing your anxieties/fears/traumas and finding healing and strength by accepting what we can not control.
